It started it’s life as the ‘Rope with No Name’….now affectionately known as IMORI* (pronounced EE-MOR-EE), this new 12mm climbing rope from Yale Cordage is causing quite a sensation in the world of tree climbing.

IMORI is a 12mm, 24-strand climbing rope which incorporates a new type of textured fibre into the rope structure, giving the climber the lightweight feel and performance of a 24 strand line but with the grip of a 13mm rope. IMORI gives all the advantages and characteristics of a lightweight 11.7mm rope but has the feel of a 13mm rope in the hand.

IMORI has been tried and tested over a three month period by professional arborist Steve Bullman (arbtalk.co.uk), who in a recent product review commented:-

“I’ve been climbing on this line [Imori] for 3 months now and have tackled some pretty big trees during that time. Milking has been minimal (if at all), and the general feel of the rope lives up to what I’d expect from any Yale line. The IMORI should suit the needs of climbers using all the currently available rope sizes, but in my opinion is particularly aimed at 13mm users. I would suggest anyone who has previously been put off by narrow diameter lines may want to revisit following this latest offering from Yale.”

Well…enough said…if it gets the thumbs up from Steve, it must be a winner!

IMORI is available in 37m and 45m lengths with one spliced eye and in a choice of two colourways…orange & black or green & black. Take your pick and enjoy a new climbing experience with IMORI!

Available to purchase online : Imori Rope from Clark

* (The name IMORI, means ‘newt’ and also ‘good forest’ in Japanese and was chosen from a large number of entries in Yale’s recent ‘Rope with no Name’ competition).

Tripods, by their very nature are a highly stable and solid structure, and this design lends itself well to being used to make ladders. The first thing everybody notices and comments when using tripod ladders is their hugely greater level of stablilty when compared to standard step ladders. Gone is that wobble whenever you dare to climb higher than the middle rungs, these things feel planted and solid.

This level of stability is helped by the flared design of tripod ladder’s legs – thus centralising the users weight even when they are near the top of the ladders.

Typically made from lightweight aluminium they’re easily carry-able with one hand, and their double rungs act more like a step, minimising the risk of slips etc.

Just because the weather turns bitterly cold, doesn’t mean that we can stop work and stay indoors (unfortunately!) and we’ve all experienced how miserable work can be when we are cold. However, being prepared for those sudden drops in temperature can make all the difference to your working day and Woolpower thermal garments possess all the qualities required to make sure you stay warm when the cold weather starts to bite.

Woolpower Ab from Ostersund in Sweden, have a long and extensive experience with cold weather, cold winters and, most importantly, with how best to dress to stay warm when it is cold. The Woolpower range of thermal under garments will help you to stay warm and comfortable, from head to toe, when it is wet and cold.

The material used, Ulfrotte Original, is knitted so that one side is smooth and the other has terry loops. This combination traps a lot of air – up to 80% of the garment consists of air – providing an excellent system for trapping and insulating body heat, even when wet.

The use of soft, fine and comfortable merino wool makes the garments perfect for wearing next to the skin.

The self wicking and insulating fabric means that you will stay warm even when perspiring as moisture is wicked away from the skin.

All Woolpower thermal garments are knitted on circular machines, resulting in hardly any seams, making them hard wearing and comfortable against the skin.

Wool, being to some extent self cleaning , means that it does not retain odours and therefore you will not need to clean your Woolpower garments that often – even the socks!

Machine washable up to 60°C. Tumble dry on medium heat.

Human Eco Friendly – Woolpower garments do not contain any toxic or harmful substances.

Woolpower thermal clothing is available to purchase in our online shop now.

We’re getting asked on an increasingly regular basis for chainsaw protection to suit the larger sized user. In most cases previously, the only option has been to get a pair of chainsaw trousers custom made from the manufacturer of your choice (Stretch-Air and SIP currently offer this service). Whilst this is method offers as close to a perfect fit as possible, the costs and waiting times for these are often horrendous! Cost wise, a rule of thumb is to double the RRP of whichever chainsaw trousers you want for a custom pair, and the timescale is normally between 4-6 months.

As a result, people often tend to look at a pair of chainsaw leggings, otherwise known as chainsaw chaps or seatless chainsaw pants (or, on a slightly less flattering note “those rodeo type Chainsaw Pants where your arse hangs out the back!). The common problem with most chainsaw leggings when worn by a larger person, is that whilst the waist is a universal size, the legs are rarely wide enough to make them a comfortable fit.

Finally, a solution!

SIP Forestry manufacture a pair of Type C (all round leg protection) chainsaw leggings, which have the standard universal waist size – i.e. you just wear them with a belt so it doesn’t matter what waist size you are, however these chainsaw leggings also have the option to zip in additional material at the back of the legs to enlarge the size to suit. You can add in as many extra strips as required in order to get a good fit.

SIP Expandable Chainsaw Leggings

The only downside, which in many cases is not a problem, is that as soon as the extra material is added, the trousers are downgraded from Type C Protection (All round leg) to Type B (Front and Side of Leg), but still offer a better level of protection than a pair of traditional Type A (Front of leg) chainsaw trousers.

Additional Zip In material strips for SIP Chainsaw Leggings

Costs for these at time of writing come in at around the £110 + VAT (£126.50 inc VAT) mark, with an additional cost of £12.50 + VAT (£14.37 inc VAT) per pair of inserts.

Personally, I would suggest just ordering one pair of inserts to begin with, and trying one or both inserts on one leg to see if any more are required? They are easily added in the event that more are required.

For comparison, our most popular ‘mid-range’ chainsaw trousers are the Oregon Super Comfort Chainsaw Trousers, which come in at £95.00 + VAT so to get something that will actually fit properly for a similar price isn’t too bad at all.

These SIP Chainsaw Leggings, along with the inserts are a stock item, so we can usually get them out to you for next day delivery.

So far the initial feedback has been great, but as always I’d love to hear what you think.

Cheers
James
